Mesa Termite News

You might have found evidence of termites – sagging floors, mud tunnels on exterior or interior walls, or even an actual termite, crawling around your home’s foundation. Regardless of the type of evidence, you made the right decision, and called a termite inspector to come visit your home for a free termite inspection. So what next? How do you prepare your home for the actual inspection?

Structural Pest Control Inspection

While it is commonly referred to as a “Termite Inspection” is officially a “Structural Pest Control Inspection.” During this inspection an inspector will not only be looking for termite damage, but will also look for signs of fungus and water damage. He or she will also take a look at conditions that would lead to termite or fungus damage – this includes plumbing leaks, and where your home’s foundation comes into contact with the ground surrounding it.

Preparations

Here are a few things you can do to prepare for the inspection:

  • Clear out everything you have stored in areas under sinks in the kitchen and bathroom(s).
  • Clear out storage areas that are within two feet of the exterior of the house.
  • Clear out storage, such as boxes or bins that are in the garage and that are within two feet from the wall.
  • Trim any bushes or ground cover that conceals the walls or foundation of the home.
  • The inspector will need to look in the attic, so you’ll want to be able to provide her or him with access. Make sure the opening to the attic is not blocked by storage. If the attic’s access opening is located in a closet, remove clothing and storage – this will ensure the so attic insulation doesn’t dirty up your clean clothes.
  • If the home was built on a raised foundation, the inspector will need to take a look under the house. Make sure the access point to the sub-area is not blocked by storage.

Relax

Lastly, just relax. Just because a termite inspector finds evidence of termites, it doesn’t mean that your home is doomed. The inspection will be able to inform both you and the inspector of what steps will need to be taken to rid your home of termites.
